This is the privacy policy for olivermoira.com and the Oliver Moira newsletter. It covers what data is collected, why, who processes it, and what rights you have.
It is written to be readable. Plain language, no legalese. If anything here is unclear, email oliver@olivermoira.com and I will explain it.
Who I am
This site and newsletter are operated by Oliver Moira, author of The Split: Adventures In The Everything.
Correspondence address:
4th Floor, 63-66 Hatton Garden

United Kingdom
Contact for privacy matters: oliver@olivermoira.com
Under UK GDPR, I am the data controller for any personal data you share with me through this site or by subscribing to the newsletter.
What I collect
When you subscribe to the newsletter
- Your email address (you provide it)
- Your first name, if you give it
- Your IP address at the moment of signup (collected automatically by the email platform)
- Engagement data: which emails you open, which links you click, which devices you read on
When you visit olivermoira.com
- Standard server logs: IP address, browser, pages visited, timestamps
- Cookies (see Cookies section below)
- Google Analytics 4 measurement data: pages visited, time on page, device type, approximate location (country/region), referral source. IP addresses are anonymised by Google before storage. Fires only if you accept cookies in the consent banner.
- Meta Pixel event data: page views and (in future) conversion events, used for ad measurement and retargeting on Facebook and Instagram. Fires only if you accept cookies in the consent banner.
When you email me
- Your email address and whatever you write
I do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Why I collect it and my legal basis
- Newsletter delivery: consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You opt in by entering your email and clicking the confirmation link. You can withdraw consent any time by unsubscribing.
- Site operation and security: legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)). To keep the site running, diagnose problems, and defend against abuse.
- Email correspondence: legitimate interest, to reply to you.
- Analytics and retargeting cookies: consent (Article 6(1)(a)). Given by clicking "Accept" in the cookie consent banner shown on your first visit. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing site data for olivermoira.com in your browser (this removes the stored preference and, on your next visit, the banner reappears).
Who processes it on my behalf
I use the following services. Each has its own privacy policy, linked below.
I do not sell your data. I do not share it with anyone outside the list above.
International transfers
Most of the services I use are US-based. Transfers of personal data outside the UK/EEA rely on the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA), the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or the UK-US Data Bridge, depending on the processor. Each processor listed above has committed to these safeguards.
How long I keep it
- Newsletter subscribers: as long as you stay subscribed. If you unsubscribe, your record is deleted from active lists within 30 days. A suppression record (just your email) may be kept to prevent re-adding you by accident.
- Server logs: 90 days.
- Email correspondence: up to two years from last contact, then deleted unless there is a legal reason to keep it longer.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data I hold about you
- Correct anything that is wrong
- Ask me to delete it (the "right to be forgotten")
- Restrict or object to processing
- Receive your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time (every newsletter email has a one-click unsubscribe link)
- Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you think I am mishandling your data
To exercise any of these, email oliver@olivermoira.com. I will respond within one calendar month.
Cookies and the consent banner
On your first visit to olivermoira.com you will see a cookie consent banner at the bottom of the screen. It has two choices: Accept or Reject.
- Accept: Google Analytics and Meta Pixel load and can place cookies.
- Reject: no analytics or advertising scripts run, no cookies are placed, the site still works.
Your choice is stored locally in your browser so you do not see the banner again on subsequent visits. To change your choice later, clear site data for olivermoira.com in your browser and the banner will reappear on your next visit.
The cookies in use when you accept:
- Essential (always on): a single local storage entry recording your cookie consent choice. No tracking.
- Google Analytics 4 (
_ga, _ga_*): understands how visitors use the site in aggregate. Data retained two months by default. Opt out any time via the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Meta Pixel (
_fbp, fr): tracks page views and conversion events for ad measurement and retargeting on Facebook and Instagram. Opt out of personalised ads at Meta's ad preferences.
You can also manage or block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking them will not affect newsletter delivery: the newsletter is email-based, not cookie-based.
Changes to this policy
When my practices change, I update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be flagged in the newsletter.
